Area Groups Will Benefit From Sara Evans Concert

(Wausau, WI) Kinzie Benefit Concerts, LLC, has selected Habitat for Humanity of Wausau to receive a portion of the proceeds it plans to donate from its first outdoor concert in The Amphitheater at Marathon Park June 3. Other Wausau area organizations will benefit as well. The concert features RCA Recording Artist Sara Evans and organizers expect to attract nearly 7,500 people to the event. Tickets are on sale now at the Performing Arts Foundation, 401 N. Fourth Street, Wausau and can be ordered by calling 715.842.0988 or by visiting the PAF Web site at www.onartsblock.org. All seats are reserved.

“Habitat for Humanity is building its 41st  home in the Wausau area, and the local volunteers work extremely hard helping families get a home of their own,” said Kirk Howard, KBC manager. “Their slogan is ‘Families Helping Families.’ Our slogan at KBC is ‘Helping those who help others.’ This seemed like the perfect match for our first concert.”

“Habitat for Humanity always needs additional funding to help pay for new building lots and construction materials,” said DuWayne Kleinschmidt, president of Habitat for Humanity. “Every dollar and in-kind contribution we get multiplies in value because our volunteers and high school students contribute their time and talents. We’re delighted to have this opportunity to raise awareness of Habitat and receive the funding for what we do.”

Ironically, a work crew of Habitat volunteers will be building a home at 1605 Bos Creek Drive on the day of the concert, while other Habitat volunteers have stepped forward to help with ushering and ticket taking at the concert later in the day.  “That’s what it’s all about. People helping each other out,” Howard said.  “Come to Marathon Park, enjoy some great entertainment and know that just by being there, you’re helping those who help others.”

A successful first event for Kinzie Benefit Concerts also will benefit a number of other area organizations including the Performing Arts Foundation which is handling ticket sales and receives $1 for each ticket sold plus handling fees.  “If we sell all the available tickets, the PAF could earn $7,500 per concert,” Howard said.

“We’ve also hired the Wausau Area Jaycees to handle the majority of the food service, and they’ll raise money from every hamburger, hot dog and bratwurst they sell,” Howard said. “I wouldn’t attempt to do the math on that one, but I suspect 7,500 hungry concert goers are likely to give the Jaycees some significant new funding for the important area youth programs they provide.”

In addition, volunteers from The Great Northern Blues Society will handle the beer and soda sales, and for their efforts Kinzie Benefit Concerts will donate a portion of those proceeds to help fund the group’s future Blues events.

Even taxpayers will benefit. More events at The Amphitheater at Marathon Park will create a new source of revenue for the Marathon County Parks and Recreation Department. In addition, The State of Wisconsin and Marathon County receive 5.5% in sales tax which could amount to more than $10,000.

The concert could also generate additional room tax dollars from out-of-town Evans fans. Kinziegreen Marketing Group is coordinating a statewide publicity campaign promoting the concert because so far it’s Evans’ only scheduled appearance in Wisconsin this summer. Articles already have appeared in Appleton, Green Bay and Eau Claire newspapers. In addition, the concert in Wausau is or soon will be posted on www.saraevans.com,  and fans around the country can purchase tickets from a national ticket outlet.

Area companies and businesses also are backing Kinzie Benefit Concerts’ first event.  WDEZ Radio, AbbyBank, the Wausau Daily Herald and Central Beer Distributors were among the first companies to step forward, and several remaining sponsorships are expected to be finalized next week.
